I want a Coke
My Jamie loved Cokes. He especially preferred Coca-Cola, but would take anything from you. If you walked in the house with a Dr Pepper, he would take it. He would drink Diet Coke. He would drink Pepsi. But if you gave him his own cup and he went to the soda fountain he would push his cup under the red label Coca-Cola.
At one time we realized his genetic syndrome has a messed up melatonin cycle and most people with his syndrome have trouble sleeping, or perhaps they sleep during the day. When we realized it, I thought perhaps the love of Coke was his way of responding. My Jamie was so very social that he wouldn't want to miss anything going on, and I suspect he started his passion for Cokes as a way of pushing through the feeling of being sleepy in the afternoon.
His Mother often said he could smell them. She would hide Diet Cokes after going to the grocery, and Stevie could find them. I watched him one time at My Fella's house take only the 12 pack of Cokes - no other groceries did he help carry in - and he took them to the exact spot where Eddie had been hiding them from him.
Under his preferred chair in my living room is an open pack of Diet Coke. My Fella says I probably didn't hide them very well on purpose. He's probably right. The carton is open, cans are missing. He knew where they were.
